Ranking The Deadpool & Wolverine Soundtrack
It has been a week since Deadpool & Wolverine released in theaters and I haven’t been able to stop thinking about the epic needle-drops in the film. The Official Soundtrack has 18 tracks, but for this list I added two more (Hells Bells & Like a Prayer) and removed one which was just the theme “LFG” by Rob Simonsen. This list is purely based on how much I enjoy listening to these songs and have nothing to do with their uses in the film. I’ll quickly run through #19-11 and give more thoughts on the top 10. Obviously no spoilers ahead, unless you consider the soundtrack a spoiler for some strange reason.
You Belong To Me (Patsy Cline, The Jordanaires)
Slash (Stray Kids)
Glamorous (Fergie)
I’ll Be Seeing You (Jimmy Durante)
You’re All I Need to Get By (Arethra Franklin)
Angel Of The Morning (Merrilee Rush & The Turnarounds)
The Lady In Red (Chris de Burgh)
The Power Of Love (Huey Lewis & The News)
I’m With You (Avril Lavigne)
None of these are particularly bad songs but are just not good enough to crack the top 10. Everything from “You’re All I Need to Get By” up are songs that I would quite happily listen to. “Slash” is a strange song from a genre I am very unfamiliar with and I didn’t notice it in the film. “Glamorous” being that low may be controversial but I just think its quite a boring song. “The Lady in Red” is a song I think I have probably heard too many times but I still enjoy it. “The Power of Love” and “I’m With You” were close to the top 10 but couldn’t quite make it.
10. The Greatest Show (The Greatest Showman Ensemble)
This song is a bit of a guilty pleasure of mine, as is the film. While this song was made for “The Greatest Showman”, I think it stands well enough on its own. Having a song by Hugh Jackman on the soundtrack for Deadpool & Wolverine was genius and only one of quite a few references to his song and dance capabilities.
9. Only You (The Platters)
Quite a relaxed song compared to everything else in the top 10 and eases you nicely into the soundtrack.
8. I’m A Ramblin’ Man (Waylon Jennings)
Great beat and quite catchy. Waylon Jenning’s vocals really lift the song.
7. Make Me Lose Control (Eric Carmen)
Just a really good song with an amazing hook.
6. You’re The One That I Want (John Travolta, Olivia Newton-John)
I’ve never actually seen Grease but for some reason this song is one of favourites from any musical.
5. Iris (The Goo Goo Dolls)
A really recognizable song to me. Vocally brilliant and a great instrumental.
4. Good Riddance (Time of Your Life) (Green Day)
Short and Sweet. Immediately has you reminiscing about past memories. One of Green Day’s best.
3. Bye Bye Bye (NSYNC)
I know I said this will have nothing to do with the use of the song in the film, but I feel like I have to mention it here. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing while watching the film. Either way, this song is iconic for a reason.
2. Hells Bells (AC/DC)
AC/DC are one of my favourite bands and as soon as the bells started ringing I immediately knew what was about to happen. Truly great song and one that I can listen to over and over again.
1. Like a Prayer (Madonna)
The best Madonna song in my opinion. I was really happy when it featured in the trailer, but I had no idea that it would be the main song used in the film. The top 5 was really tight but this was always going to be number 1.
